We hopped a microbus from the UCA (Central American University) en route to Granada, planning on getting off at the turn-off for the lagoon. It seemed that our timing was perfect because a regular bus was heading up to the lagoon as we stepped off the microbus. So we ran to catch it, jumping in the back (normally the emergency exit). Ten minutes later we were disappointed to discover that this bus stopped at the top of the hill and didn't actually go down to the lagoon (another 5 km). So we shared a taxi with two other people, asking the driver to take us to a nice spot...Another mistake. People have very different definitions of 'nice.' So, after figuring out that a dirty tent selling warm beer without a beach was not going to satisfy my swimming and nutritional needs, we started walking the opposite direction in search of a nicer hotel that served lunch in exchange for utilizing its swimming space. No other taxis passed and we ended up walking about 2 km--Gloria in high heels, as always--in the rain--until we got to the hotel. The hotel was really nice, and I got to swim for a good hour straight. Lunch was pretty good too, and we hung out for a couple hours just taking in the view. However, on the way back, we couldn't get a lift, so we had to walk the 2 km again, ended up in the back of a pick-up truck that got us to the highway, and then hopped a microbus back to the UCA, where we took a regular crowded bus home. Needless to say, we were both pretty tired by the time we got back to Batahola.
