More Donation Success!

With your generous support, the students at Colegio Enmanuel Mongalo y Rubio of Esteli, Nicaragua will be able to make emergency phone calls, receive printed assignments, and eat their daily, government-provided snack at school! These are all huge accomplishments!

Here is the photocopier that we will soon repair, which will save the teachers a lot of time and money. Right now they have to take a taxi into town and fill out a lot of paperwork at the Ministry of Education office if they need to make a copy of something.

The woman on the left is the school principal, Sobey da Coinejo, and beside her is a parent, who works at the school everyday as a security guard and general assistant for the teachers. They are both wonderful people and work very long hours every day (6:30 AM until 7:00 PM) to make sure that these children are well cared for and receive a high quality education. They are SO grateful for your generosity, and are documenting how every cent of your donation is spent.

The Luxembourg government built this kitchen for the school a year or two ago, but they don't receive any funds from the government for infrastructure, so they have never been able to use it. Now is a perfect time to finish the construction because of the new, nation-wide school feeding program. Right now mothers take turns cooking bags and bags of raw beans and rice and bringing their portions to school for the children. However, with over 1,000 children, this is a very difficult task to coordinate. With a kitchen on campus, the students here will never go hungry.
They're going to buy a couple more bags of cement to finish off this 'fireplace' project. I believe they will build a fire in the hole on the top and cook beans and rice in a huge pot. Then they can slide that pot down and let it cool on the flat part. (That's my theory anyway.)
